About the Women Marines Association

| The
Women Marines Association was founded in 1960 in Denver Colorado.
The purpose of the WMA is to preserve and promote the heritage and
traditions of women in the Marine Corps for future
generations.
The WMA mission is: * To preserve and promote the history and traditions of women Marines. * To foster, encourage, and perpetuate the spirit and camaraderie among women in the Marine Corps. * To promote the welfare of elderly, disabled, and needy women Marines. * To provide assistance to hospitalized veterans and members of the Armed Forces. * To promote the civic and social welfare of the community. * To sponsor or participate in patriotic activities, especially those that perpetuate the traditions and esprit de corps of the Marines. * To conduct programs for charitable and educational purposes. With these ideals as their building blocks the first WMA chapter was formed in Washington, D.C. in 1962 and chartered along with six additional chapters in 1964. To date, there are 77 local chapters. There are currently 3,803 active members in the Women Marines Association. The WMA is a member of the Navy-Marine Corps council and the National Marine Corps Council. The WMA also maintains liaison with Headquarters, Marine Corps.
